EACD 2026 Conference
The CaSE Lab had two co-authored abstract submissions accepted to present at the 2026 Congress for the European Academy of Childhood-onset Disability (EACD) held in Galway, Ireland in June 2026! The theme of the conference is: ‘Mol an Óige agus Tiocfaidh Siad’ - Encourage the young and they will flourish. The CaSE Lab is pround to have the theme of the conference directly in line with the mission and vision of our laboratory.

Current Practices for Assessing and Supporting Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Needs in Young Children (0-3) with Cerebral Palsy [Poster]. European Association on Childhood Disabilities, Galway, Ireland.
– This poster presents the results of Round 1 of a modified e-Delphi study examining current assessment and intervention practices for SLPs in early intervention working with 0-3 infants and toddlers with or at risk for cerebral palsy, a motor disorder. Our findings highlight the dynamic assessment process that extends into intervention to evaluate and support speech and AAC abilities, simultaneously, as children continue to grow.
- Long HL, Hidecker, MJC, Slone, S & Lenski, M (Accepted for 2026, June). Descriptive epidemiology of functional communication among children aged 10 born extremely prematurely [Poster]. European Association on Childhood Disabilities, Galway, Ireland.
– This poster presents a descriptive epidemiology of communication functioning at age 10 among children born extremely preterm. Using a range of speech, language, and communication measures, findings show that up to 28% had reduced communication abilities, highlighting the significant long-term communication needs in this population compared to national averages.
